2016 Photo of the Year Winners

The Missouri Journalism Education Association is pleased to announce the Photo of the Year State Award Winners.

  • Isabella Martinez  from North Kansas City High School [photo] (+1,001) and Katherine Sleckman from Clayton High School [photo](under 1,001) have been named MJEA’s Feature Photo of the of the Year State Award Winners.
  • Kristen Pike from Francis Howell North High School [photo(+1,001) and Libby Hutchinson from St. Teresa’s Academy [photo](under 1,001) have been named MJEA’s Sports Photo of the Year State Award Winners.
  • Lauren Price from Francis Howell North High School [photo] (+1,001)  and Paige Powell from Teresa’s Academy [photo(under 1,001) have been named MJEA’s News Photo of the Year State Award Winners.
  • Megan Wallis from Parkway Central High School [photo] and Katherine Sleckman from Clayton High School [photo] (under 1,001) have been named MJEA’s Portrait of the Year State Award Winners.

These students submitted impressive pieces of work from this school year that were selected as the winners by a highly-qualified judging team. This is a wonderful honor for all the students and the schools they represent and are indicative of the the high quality of their publications programs.

The MJEA Individual Student awards were designed to honor the very best in student writing, photography, design and video storytelling in Missouri by selecting one winner in each of 21 categories. The state winners will receive a special medallion and certificate in the mail soon.

MJEA is the largest state scholastic journalism organization formed to help protect and enhance scholastic journalism in Missouri. MJEA works to provide outreach and support to advisers and journalism programs across the state. The organization supports free and responsible scholastic journalism by providing resources and educational opportunities, by promoting professionalism, by encouraging and rewarding student excellence and teacher achievement, and by fostering an atmosphere which encompasses diversity yet builds unity.
